Brighter Days ("we", "us") is a game that encourages small acts of kindness and self-care. This policy explains what information the Brighter Days app and website collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We collect only what the game needs to work. We don't sell your information, show ads, or track you across other apps or websites.
Information we collect
Account information
- Email address, used to sign you in with a one-time code.
- Display name, which you choose and can change in Settings.
- Friend code, a random code created for your account so friends can add you.
Game activity
- Your daily ideas, which ideas you completed, your gold and angel relics, and your level.
- Your friends list.
- A record of when you submit proof, used to limit how many proof checks can be made per day.
Proof you submit
Some ideas ask for proof: a photo of a receipt, a photo, a screenshot, or a short written description. When you submit proof:
- It is sent to our server and to Anthropic, the AI provider that checks whether it meets the idea's requirements.
- We do not store the photo, screenshot or text. We keep only a one-way fingerprint (a hash) of it, so the same proof can't be used twice. The fingerprint can't be turned back into your image or text.
- Please don't include sensitive information in proof, such as full card numbers or other people's private details.
Location
- Walks and new routes: when you start a walk or route idea, the app records your GPS location until you finish or end it.The points are sent to our server to check time, distance and pace. We don't keep the raw points; for route ideas, we keep a coarse grid of areas you have travelled (about 50 meters across) so we can tell whether a future route is new.
- Nearby (optional, off by default): if you turn on "Share my approximate area", we store your location rounded to about 1 kilometer. Other players see only your approximate distance from them, never your location. Turning it off in Settings deletes it. Locations not updated for 7 days are not shown.
Camera and photos
The app uses your camera to photograph proof, and your photo library only when you choose a screenshot. It doesn't access other photos.
Website
This website doesn't use cookies or analytics. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for security.
What other players can see
- Friends see your display name, level and relic count.
- Players on the leaderboard see the display name, level and relics of top players.
- Nearby players (only if you turn Nearby on) see your display name, level, relics and approximate distance.
Other players never see your email address.
How we use information
- To run the game: sign you in, pick your daily ideas, verify proof, award relics and show your level.
- To power friends, sharing and Nearby features you choose to use.
- To prevent cheating and abuse, such as reused receipts or spoofed GPS.
- To send sign-in codes. We don't send marketing email.
Who we share information with
We use these service providers to run Brighter Days. They process information only to provide their service to us:
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of our users or the public. We don't sell or rent personal information.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and game data while your account exists. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, email, relics, level, daily ideas, friends, route history and location. Proof fingerprints are kept without any link to you, only to stop the same proof from being reused.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account at any time in the app: Settings → Delete my account. It takes effect immediately and can't be undone. You can also email us to request deletion.
- Change your display name in Settings.
- Turn Nearby off in Settings, which deletes your stored location.
- Control permissions (camera, photos, location) in your phone's settings at any time.
- Access or correct your data: email us and we'll respond within 30 days.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or California privacy laws. Contact us to exercise them.
Children
Brighter Days is not intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Security
Information is encrypted in transit, and access to the database is restricted so players can only read what the game is designed to show them. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
Changes to this policy
If we make significant changes, we'll update the date above and let you know in the app.
